Emma Southerly doesn't belong at Belle Mère Prep despite her new stepfather's money. Not after she shunned her invite to the popular table, and especially not after what happened last summer. So when her best friend begs her to crash an invite-only, end of the year party, she should say no with a capitol H-E-L-L.
It's just a party. What could go wrong?
Getting kicked out to start. Running into the man who destroyed your family.
Until she meets Jamie, who's also hiding from the in-crowd. After spending the night with the cute stranger, Emma barely makes it home before news hits Belle Mère's brunch tables. A body's been found on the West estate, and Jamie is the number one suspect. But he couldn't have done it…right?
Emma isn't sure she can trust him or the rest of Belle Mère. After all, no one is safe when everyone is a liar. (
Emma Southerly is a junior at Belle Mere Prep School in Las Vegas, where she only has one best friend name Josie. It's the last day of school and Emma is not really looking forward to the summer; where she will spend a week with her mother in Palm Springs and help run her father's pawn shop.Josie, wanting to celebrate the end of the school, tells Emma that they will be going to a surprise party. Come to find out it's Monroe West's party; an enemy of Emma's for a few years.
Emma is a girl still in grief from losing her sister Becca in a car accident (not a spoiler it's in the first chapter). She doesn't have the best family life, it's practically non-existent. Her best friend, Josie, has problems of her own, but in the end that is who Emma has, along with Josie's mother. Neither of the two have perfect lives, and they don't fit in with the Housers at their prep school. Emma's father owns a pawn shop and Josie's mother is an ex showgirl.
This is my first read from this author and I wasn't disappointed in the least. Her characters are wonderful and are unique in their own way. The writing was fast paced and a page turner, with you wanting more to see what will happen next. I can't say that I have a favorite character because I love them all, well besides two, and I even like Monroe.
Emma's and Josie's relationship I can relate to when I did have a best friend. I wish Emma will show Josie a little more concern when it involves her dating older guys. Because even at her age I feel like Emma would be worried about her best friend, especially how things are now. I guess you can say that's my only problem with this book.
Now onto the man of the hour, Jameson West. Le sigh. Him and Josie are so cute together and I just want my own Jameson (insert crying emoji here). The scenes with them together, especially the last chapter (or second to last) was extremely hot and steamy.
As for the murder, I have like three suspects and I'm pretty sure it's not neither of them and be someone I didn't expect at all.
This book is so deliciously good and every sense of the word. From the plot, to the characters, to the dreamy Jameson. As someone said, if you like Pretty Little Liars (the show) you will definitely like this book.
